How do we meet and respond to climate and ecological breakdown, and the intersecting crises of social and racial injustice, without burning out? River Wolton’s new book ‘The Subtle Art of Caring: A Guide to Sustaining Compassion’ (Windhorse Publications, Nov 2023) offers creative, inspired approaches for a life in which compassion and justice for self and others are mutually sustaining. The book weaves together stories, conversations with practitioners, activists, and teachers, creative explorations, guided meditations, and illustrations by artist Emma Burleigh.
Join River to discuss how the capacities for mindfulness, kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity, together with the power of community, enable activism and contemplative practice to nourish and support each other.
The evening will include a short practice, readings from the book, and a Q&A. This event is offered in collaboration with the Mindfulness Network Community Friends (MNCF) - an initiative to engage the wider mindfulness community and reach new audiences. Led by a Committee of Volunteers, supported by the Mindfulness Network, we work together to run a programme of donation-based events and inspiring content. You are welcome to visit the Community Friends area of our Community site, which is open to all, for more opportunities to practice and learn together.
