Re: Attending Global Health Care Compassionate Leadership and Resilience Training

I am interested in participating in the Compassionate Leadership and Resilience Training for Global Health Leaders developed jointly by the Center for Compassionate Leadership and the Focus Area for Compassion and Ethics (FACE) at the Task Force for Global Health. I believe that this training will help me to increase my effectiveness and impact in our work.

This program is based upon Center for Compassionate Leadership’s innovative compassionate leadership training curriculum, specifically adapted in partnership with FACE for the unique challenges that face workers in global health.

During this 8-week program I will learn to:

  • Increase creativity, engagement, and well-being through creating an environment of safety, connection, and belonging.

  • Create organizational procedures and structures that will support employees in working at the highest levels of professionalism and satisfaction.

  • Connect our individual and organizational values to others, including partners, the global environment, and our shared common humanity.

  • Create a specific road map for how I can create transformative, lasting change in our organization.

  • Build skills of mindfulness and compassion so that I can lead others from a balanced and anchored center.

There are many evidence based benefits for organizations that implement the principles of compassionate leadership, including:

  • Higher employee engagement and lower employee turnover.

  • Higher levels of creativity and innovation.

  • Higher service quality.

  • Improved measures of collaboration among teams and with partners.

  • Improved patient outcomes in clinical settings.

 Expert Faculty

The course is taught by world class faculty, including David Addiss, MD, MPH, director of FACE, and Laura Berland and Evan Harrel of The Center for Compassionate Leadership, as well as additional guest faculty. Dr. Addiss is an expert in compassion in global health, with a medical career of over forty years that has included directing programs for the WHO, CDC, and Fetzer Institute in parasitic diseases, science, and spirituality. He has co-authored over 150 peer reviewed publications, a book, and several book chapters. In addition to his role at FACE, he is the founder and director of the Center for Compassion & Global Health. Dr. Addiss was awarded his MD from the Medical College of Georgia, and his MPH from Johns Hopkins University. In the founding of the Center for Compassionate Leadership, Ms. Berland integrated her multi-decade career as a non-profit and corporate executive with her twenty years of experience as a contemplative practitioner and teacher. She is an alumna of Cornell University and New York University. Mr. Harrel also brings significant leadership experience in finance, non-profit management, and contemplative practices to CFCL. He is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Business School.

Costs

The program is limited in size, and I would like to register before it fills up. The registration fee for the course is $695. For organizations for whom this fee would present a challenge, we may choose to pay $495.

The program will have benefits for our colleagues and organization, and I plan to share my learning with a post-training report, including ways that I we will be able to use the principles of compassionate leadership to strengthen our organization.

I am very excited about the possibility of participating in this program, and would welcome the chance to talk about it further with you. I look forward to hearing from you.
